Mana like other natural forces in the world moves at different pitches (aura) and tempos (speed). These pitch or aura determine what effect the mana has on the world. Each pitch or aura will allow a person to determine a rough grouping of of the type of spell (ie: fire mages, as a group will roughly use the same pitch/aura of mana, like wise healers a different one, etc) The tempo/speed the mana flows at determines what creatures can use it. On Gaia moderate mana speeds are the most common and is used by most humans and elves. Faster speeds are used by Angels and Light Fae, Slower speeds are used by Dark Fae. Demons use stagnant mana. Mana that pools tends to cause changes in the world and may cause small rifts to open into other dimensions. Slower mana pools are also prone to pollution. Human mages can sense and manipulate moderate tempos of mana, using their own energy to form it into a spell. The pitch or aura of different mana is most commonly sensed by a mage visually as a colour or glow around an item or a person.
