He was summoned long ago to this world, during the early Albion campaigns against the Caledonian uprising which was a war between two human countries on the edge of the dragon empire, one of whom used demon magic to quell a slave revolt, and it turned into a 100 year long war... which for the most part was of little interest to the Empire which was busy placing the Er'aura.
He broke the contract he had signed with the summoning mage when he fell in love with a Caledonian human slave (male). This caused him to be banished from the demon realm, in anger/annoyance regarding his banishment, Kerwin in the form of a human woman and his lover started hunting the other demons that the Albions were using. This lead to his lover's eventual death; but by then Kerwin had made a pact with the leader of the slaves to help in the war. He stayed to see out that pact. Over his years with the Caledonian's he developed a deep hatred of demon, and other slave societies, as he saw their eventual corruption play out era after era. There is some indication he may have been involved in the revolts in Sparta, and the slave uprisings in Rome as well as the slave uprisings in the American south in the 50's/60's CE.
In his early years on this world he and his Aradan were called the overlords hound, though his Aradan were always the public face of the hound to the Caledonian people. In the time of Malcom the III the youngest son of the Stewart family made the pact with Kerwin and becomes the person to makes the sacrifice that topples the curse on the Albion throne in return for his protection of the Steward line.
By the time the pact had lapsed the magic died and he was trapped in the human world without a gate to get home. He became a warrior and hunted demons and 'evil' mages early on in history, and this allowed him to stay awake, even gain in power despite the lack of magic in the world.
He became part of the Knights Templar until they were disbanded - and is one of their secrets that has been lost to history.
In 1917 CE he was in a bombing of a French church - he was the only survivor. This was written about as a miracle, and Ryan read the article in a paper and sought him out after that. After much pushing on Ryan's part, Kerwin finally admits to being awake all those years, and finds in Ryan an ally who still believes in humanity (something that other's that were constantly awake lacked, in Kerwin's opinion).
The two of them joined forces and started helping the dreamers, making their lives a bit more bearable. (Something that Ryan, as a Jesuit priest, took as an extension of his vows to the church).
In 1945 CE Kerwin joins Ryan to form IS51, finding an even greater need to assist the people that the Nazi's woke.

Through the 1960's CE and 70's CE he actively campaigned for peace in Ireland as a politician by the name of Karrie Micheals. In the late 1980's CE and the 90's CE he was a student activist leader for peace in Ireland. Where he first met TJ's family, and where he took an interest in her... hoping one day that she might become his aradan, he starts indirectly pushing her away from her fanatical beliefs and subtlety helps her avoid capture a few times.
In 1996 CE he adopts Mathew, and 1999 CE after the first mana sink was broken he took Mathew as a second Aradan.
It is his other aradan working with Wolf that finds the magical sink that IS51 decides to destroy - leading to the increase in magic/psi in 000 AE. He looses her in the blast.
Kerwin spent a large amount of time researching that blast for IS51 trying to finding out who caused it. He took the loss personally; and blamed Wolf for not protecting the site adequetly. He is the driver behind the split between tenous alliance between Wolfe's organization and IS51. He dislikes the greater demons with a passion that leaks through in his writing.
In 008 AE he becomes essentially Mathew's life line for the deep undercover China operation, and is also how Mathew resists corruption by "the enemy", which ends in 016 AE, and Mathew returns to London and marries Khristian.
