Psionics are powers of the mind, related to magic but rather then manipulating environmental mana into different forms, a psionisist directs mental energy, into a psionic ability. The energy used in both psionics and magic are different but related. The scanners that sense magic can be extended to include psionic energy. Unlike magic, psionics need no specific spell casting in order to achieve the effects, rather the person just needs to concentrate on their ability correctly. Each psionic type is an innate ability and the only thing that changes is the skill to use the ability, where as magery has a broad range of spells that can produce vastly different effects.
In the face of the rise of magic and the expansion of the Orientani empire Allied governments and businesses are the most interested in the electrokenetics - those with the ability to manipulate electricity, and the related skill which has recently come to light called cybernetic psionics, or cyberpsi. Cyberpsis have the ability to mentally move through electrical systems and enter computer systems/the internet.
They can continue to keep technology working in high mana areas that would normally take out technological systems.
The internet remains somewhat intact, despite the mana waves due to a number of active cyberpsis and some AIs. The various virtual worlds attached to it as well as the larger infrastructure needed to maintain it is maintained by a network of committed cyberpsis in all the allied lands this has allowed non-psionic users, who have access to working computers throughout the world to continue to access the information and businesses that are available on it.
