Dragons

Dragons are not native to this dimension but came through a gate to settle the world of Caledon very early in it's history, before the rise of humanity.
They ruled over various territories and the races of the world prior to the catacalysm that caused the magic of the world to die and humans to rise as the dominant race. They ancient empire that designed and caused the unintentional demise of magic on the world was ruled by dragons.
Those of the dragon race who could leave after the cataclysm moved into other dimensions as soon as the magic on the world of Caledon started draining. Those who did not leave fell quickly into the dreaming trapped asleep in caves or in human form.
Dragons sustain their mana by collecting specific materials that sing to them, and often tend to horde items made of that material.
All dragons are highly magical and can create gates, and massive enchantments.
Dragons grow in both size and mana as they age and are one of the four immortal races (the other races being High Fae, Angels, and Demons). Dragons do not die of age, and can only be killed if the death blow can get past their scales. Dragons start the size of a large horse and continue growing. The largest known dragons are similar in length to large airplanes with larger wing spans.
They molt irregularly but their skins are quite vulnerable when they do. The new skin under the shed is quite soft, taking about a day to properly harden. Dragon skin (shed or from a dead individual) is a sought after spell component as it is one of the hardest magically resistant substances known.
