Fae

Fae are creatures born from the magic of their worlds. Their forms are as diverse as the magic they come from. They are found across many worlds and are strongly tied to the environment they are from. Most have the ability to manipulate magic and many become powerful mages. Each of the fae races have different abilities and while humans many try to classify them as Seelie (Good Fairies) or Unseelie (Bad Fairies) their societies are never that straight forward. Especially because they are a cross dimensional phenomena, and many of their societies are particularly loosely structured.

The only universal constant is that all Fae have glamour that works to hide them and their structures from human sight when needed. Fae, due to their need for mana are prone to the Dreaming, a state of forgetfulness that occurs to all magical creatures that do not have enough mana to sustain them. Many are also susceptible to cold-iron and gun powder residue.

High Fae can be human looking, though usually tall, and slender; but in human form they will usually have one or two features that can not be hidden by their glamour.  Most High Fae swear to either one court or the other independently rather then as a community. High fae are thought to be immortal.

Most other Fae are not generally immortal, but rather so long lived as to appear immortal to humans.

Fae society is ruled by two monarchies that of the Summer King (the seelie) and that of the Winter Queen (the unseelie); but there is a third group of unaligned Fae as well. The two aligned groups typically have a treaty for sharing their power, and cooperate diplomatically in most of the dimensions they inhabit. The world of Caledon does not have enough mana to sustain either court so the kings and queens from other dimensions are active.
